The annual John Vosilla Toy Drive and Hockey Tournament will be staged on Saturday at the Staten Island Skating Pavilion.
The annual John Vosilla Memorial Toy Drive and Hockey Tournament will be staged Saturday (Dec. 10, 2022) from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Staten Island Skating Pavilion in Charleston.
A former hockey player, coach, special education teacher and manager of the Arthur Kill facility, Vosilla’s 2016 passing at the age of 32 affected many and urged the need for the restart of his community efforts.
In addition to the toy collection, a four-team hockey tournament is played in his memory, featuring any one of the coaches, athletes or friends that have crossed paths with Vosilla over the years through their shared love of hockey.
Custom jerseys with the words “forever in our hearts” inked in the collar are sewn for the match, with each competitor sporting Vosilla’s trademark number 42.
The event will kick off with a family and friends skate (players also welcome) from 4:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., followed by a puck drop on a four-team tourney for the cup.
While the hockey games are held, there will be music, games, raffles and more for fans to enjoy.
Apparel and other items will be up for sale.
“All sales benefit the John Vosilla Memorial Foundation and help the foundation provide dinners and essential items to families in need this holiday,” said AJ Basile, one of the event’s organizers. “The toys are donated to local hospitals, domestic abuse shelters in Jersey City and to multiple organizations affiliated with the Garden of Dreams foundation. To date, the players, families and friends have donated several holiday dinners and thousands of toys.”
Entry fee is $75, plus two toys per player. The organization would greatly appreciate 1-2 toys per guest.
Jerseys will be provided to the players. The $75 is best sent through PayPal to the organization. For further information please send emails to johnvosillamemorial@gmail.com.
