A GYM-GOER has revealed her fury at being dress coded while working out for allegedly revealing too much up top.
Marissa McNamara, a fitness influencer, shared the story in a video with over 450k TikTok followers.
The content creator had posted a video about the time she got dress-coded because it wasn't "fair" to the men at the gym.
"Just thinking about this time the owner of my gym tested me telling me I have to start wearing shirts in the gym bc it's not fair for all the men who can't go shirtless," she said.
"Women wearing only a sports bra ≠ men being shirtless."
A viewer had responded with a polarizing comment: "Absolutely fair to have a dress code in gyms," they said.
Marissa responded in turn: "Completely fair and 100% legitimate to have a dress code at the gym and to ask your members to follow that dress code," she said.
"I don't think there's anything wrong with that, what rubbed me the wrong way was the fact that they texted me and said, hey Marissa, we just ask that you start wearing a shirt to the gym."
If the gym had left the message at that, Marissa would've understood.
"But they followed up that text with 'we wouldn't want all the men in the gym to feel like it was unfair that they couldn't walk in without a shirt on, that they couldn't be shirtless either,'" she explained.
"Ma'am? You think this is me being shirtless?" she said, pointing to her full-length sports bra.
"What I don't like is when they tell me that the men at the gym can't go shirtless and that's why I need to put on something that covers my midriff and shoulders."
Viewers took to the comments to share their thoughts.
One commenter dissented with the sentiment: "Stop stop stop literally a sports bra, it's not a shirt," they said.
Other commenters disagreed: "There's shirts that go the length, it's perfectly fine," replied one.
"Men should just man up and wear cropped tops," said another.
"So dumb, you look great," said a third.
