Master trainer Taylor Calamese is doubling down on her fitness concept, Charlotte Fit.
She opened Charlotte Fit South yesterday at 10106 Johnston Road, Suite C.
The full-service 3,000-square-foot fitness studio offers personal training services — both in studio and online — as well as open gym services for all ages and fitness levels. It has programs that focus on weight management, muscular strength sculpting, preventative health, cardiovascular fitness, and prenatal and postnatal fitness.
The goal was to create a space that feels both comfortable and safe.
“I always felt like the general structure of box gyms could be very intimidating and overwhelming,” she says.
Calamese invested between $150,000 and $200,000 into Charlotte Fit South. Wanda Campbell of Twin Designs and Construction was the general contractor, with Will Smith of Interior Motives handling design.
Calamese wants Charlotte Fit South to be a one-stop-shop for health and wellness. She’ll offer nutrition coaching, body fat testing, corporate wellness and personal trainer certification programs.
She also operates Charlotte Fit North, a women-focused personal training studio that opened in August 2020. It aims to create a community that is supportive, empowering and not intimidating.
“It creates a comfortability to show up exactly as you are — at whatever fitness level. It also provides more intimacy and privacy to reach your goals without the judgement of others,” Calamese says.
Charlotte Fit South offers a number of packages. They include small group personal training sessions — up to four people — priced at $350 per person for eight sessions.
A three-pack of group fitness classes for first-timers is $75. Fitness classes including dance cardio, strengthen and sculpt, bootcamps and yoga will launch in February.
Open gym memberships run $87 per month. Nutrition coaching costs $65 per hour, with discounts available for six- or 12-month commitments.
Charlotte Fit South is open Monday through Friday, from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is closed on Sunday.
